ECHO PARK

Location

Surrounded by Elysian Valley and Park, Silver Lake and very close to Downtown Los Angeles, Echo Park is a cool place to live in Los Angeles.

Echo Park Today

Echo Park followed Silver Lake in recent years in the trend to move east.  Both neighborhoods have become two of the most desirable places to live in Los Angeles.  A few years ago Echo Park Lake was beautified and restored and has become a favorite place to walk, picnic or rent paddleboats.  The Lotus festival is back and an event not to be missed.  The boathouse sells coffee, light breakfast, lunch and snacks.  Echo Park Lake is just a fabulous place to relax in the middle of the City with a beautiful backdrop of Downtown LA.

There are a number of great restaurants, shops and places of interest in Echo Park.  TAIX, family owned and operated since 1927, offers French provincial food, Mohawk Bend located in the retrofitted 100-year-old Vauderville Theater has a vegan and traditional kitchen and offers a great selection of locally sourced beer in a beautiful space.  Masa, a homestyle Italian restaurant, and Sage, vegan wonderfulness are both on Sunset Blvd.

Bit of History

In 1868, Echo Park Lake was intended to be a reservoir to hold water for the “West End” of the City; The LA River supplied Water to the reservoir.  By 1887, investors had purchased the lands around present day Echo Park and were beginning to sell off the subdivided lands – this was the beginning of the residential development of Echo Park.  In 1895 the park and boathouse were completed around Echo Park Lake.
